Art a la Carte

Mobile Art Program

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department introduces, Art a la Carte, a FREE mobile art education program that brings exciting, hands-on art experiences to neighborhood parks, so that children ages 6-13 can be introduced to art history and basic techniques for several art mediums.

Art a la Carte is made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, Orcutt Children’s Art Foundation, and the People for Leisure And Youth, Inc. Each month the Art a la Carte trailer will visit a different park where art instructor Tommy Hacker will lead a variety of hands-on art lessons for the kids. Parents will have the opportunity to observe and learn about art history and different art mediums while their children create and practice the new art skills learned.

Two identical lessons are planned during each park visit. They will be held from 1:00-2:30 PM and from 2:30 – 4:00 PM. Advance registration is suggested.
